Our Mission

Chronic pain impacts 20% of the population, and there are few opportunities for those with disabling pain to build community. The Flare Society is a community of pain-focused researchers, with the purpose of taking what we know and helping people to be better advocates for themselves and those they care for, to increase pain education, and to make listening to pain a national priority.

We'll Learn the Most Together

We're committed to learning about different experiences of pain, learning ways to live more fully in the context of pain, and keeping hope. We can do this through our research and by listening to those who live with pain and creating opportunities to learn from each other.

Overcoming the Isolation of Pain

Pain can be isolating, magnifying distress. We hope to find a way to make sure people have a place to learn and make community and find hope.

What Motivated Us To Start a New Organization

We are researchers, graduate students, and people who have endured a lot of pain. We came together so see if we could create a learning and supportive community for one of the biggest health issues we face--so many of us are living in pain. The results from pain research aren't often written for the people enduring it, we want to change that.

What We're Learning From Our Research, the Flare Study

We work on connections to ourselves and others because that's one of the biggest things pain takes away
